Via Counting Cats, Australia has finally succumbed to insanity.
Officers can no longer use details such as a suspect’s nationality, race or religion when seeking public help. Instead, they have been told to say if the person is light or dark skinned…
The Equal Opportunities Commission says the ban was introduced six months ago after complaints that using ethnic descriptions was racist…
(…)
One police insider said the policy had prevented the capture of suspects…
“There is a big difference between a dark-skinned person being Aboriginal or African. And if we are looking for an Asian person-of-interest it’s a bit narrow to describe them as simply having fair skin and dark hair.”
But Equal Opportunity Commission state commissioner Yvonne Henderson said using ethnic descriptions reinforced negative stereotypes.
“It can feed into prejudiced ideas in the community about which ethnicities are mainly responsible for criminal behaviour,” she said…
Ethnic Communities Council of WA president Maria Saraceni said the ban stopped police condemning everyone of a particular race in an area they were investigating.

Well, then, teach the police to trade definitions. White = black. Native born = immigrant. European = aboriginal. Blonde = black haired or dark haired. Straight hair = curly.
Play the game of fuck you and your insane clown posse. Use their insanity against them.
It simply makes no sense to weed out every non-white descriptive of criminal suspects based on the taint of subjective racism.
That’s just insane.
Jewel, you finally said fuck. Brava. ;-)
What is racist about describing a non-white person as not white?
Are people of color ashamed to be described as people of color?
Can anyone explain to me the inherent racism implied by accurately describing the physical attributes of any given criminal suspect?
As a general rule, saying the criminal was of color is being redundant, and can offend ones sensitivities.
As near as I can tell, regular Aussies are about as sensible and conservative as a typical midwestern Yank. But their left is full of ex-Marxists, human-rights advocates and trade union leeches. You can guess from which category the intelligentsia comes.
It would seem Australia’s insane capitulation to political correctness may render their citizenry less safe.
In isolating a suspect in a crime, the building blocks of building a suspect are race, gender, and age. Determining each is part of the process of elimination, thus narrowing down the possibilities.
If one of these is removed from the equation, the public obviously is at greater risk, and the police are impeded in making progress (as evidenced in the post).
If we are to carry this nutty thinking out to it’s logical end, why should gender identification be permitted – couldn’t that possibly be a reinforcing of stereotyping, or perceived as sexism? And if one publicly estimates a suspect’s age and makes it public, could that not be a form of ageism?
Why is race the only protected descriptor? It would seem that, on it’s face, is a form of discrimination at the expense of age and gender.
totally agree with you … never figured out why you’ld want to include religion in a description but race / nationality certainly helps give people an idea of what they’re looking for.
There’s a huge difference, to me anyway, between someone with ‘dark skin’ and ‘of aboriginal appearance’ when given as a description.
I did indeed drop the mother lode, did I not. Probably because the children are all in bed. You know, there was a case in Wichita, KS, where the press bent over backwards to avoid mentioning the race of the black defendants who murdered 4 white college students precisely because they were white. Not only would they not mention the race of the brothers who killed these young people, but went out of their way to avoid the motive….which was racism against whites. The press is of the belief that only whites are guilty of racism. Fortunately, all this came out at trial, and it went into the court records and minutes.
It’s like the stupid woman who desperately hoped that the Times Square Bomber wasn’t going to be a Muslim, but rather a tea party member. Reality bites hard the asses of the wishful thinkers whose heads are comfortably stuffed up inside them.
It’s just another symptom of the spread of political correctness.
I, for one, think it’s double plus good.
Argentina went to compulsory voting at about the same time as Australia–about ninety years ago–and continued it’s descent for from third richest country in the world to basket case. It is a testament to the Aussie’s that it took so long to lose their souls to this device. Enforced universal suffrage is an insurmountable obstacle to independent thinking or progress, and greases the skids to socialism.
How can a citizen be free who is not free to abstain from voting? The object is to bring citizens to a level where they are not capable of asking that question. Which, they have done. Lacking that device, you can train people into docility by regular TSA inspections.
Hey, nice hairdo!
Why are you commenting on my hair?
Just trying to be nice.
Well, I’m offended. Do you think you are my superior, who gets to evaluate my features?
No, just a guy giving you a compliment.
Well, don’t.
Fine. In fact, you look like a parrot that’s been dragged backwards though a hedge row. I’ve seen more flattering hairdos on roadkill.

Here. let me help you carry that, lady.
No, I can do it. Do you think woman are incapable of carrying boxes? Do you think we need men?
I was just trying to spare you a strained back. That box weighs 80 pounds, and you don’t weigh much more.
Well, when I need your help, I’ll ask for it.
And when you ask for it, lady, I’ll tell you politely, as is my wont, to go sit on a fid.

Hey, ‘Nita. What did y’all have for Thanksgiving? Any yummy collards with lots of pork and honey, and other goodies?
You think that because we’re black we eat collards? That’s racist.
No, I think that because you LIKE collards you eat collards.
Don’t try semantics with me, Lance. [Right, because it's not about what words ordinarily mean. It's about how you can redefine words and make everyone else act accordingly.] That’s a stereotype. It’s racism.
It’s not a stereotype. It’s a sound generalization. Just like asking a Jew if he had chicken soup for Passover.
It sounds like a stereotype to me.
That’s because you don’t know what the word means, AND you want always to be pissed off about something so that you can sustain your identity as an angry black person. Ha! YOU are a living stereotype of your own creation.
[What a shit head.]

Hey, Jamal. You’re Somali, right?
Why do you ask?
I dunno. Just being interested in your ancestry. You have eyes and a delicate nose that I associate with folks from Somalia.
All Somalis don’t look the same. We are just human beings. This is white western hegemony talking. You people treat everyone else like some kind of specimen.
No, it’s just me talking. YOU are the guys who keep demanding that everyone honor your distinctiveness. YOUR culture. YOUR political interests. YOUR share of the pie. I’m just going along with that.
It sounds racist to me.
Fine. Next time you want me to honor your culture, I’ll tell you—as a human being—to go screw a pumpkin.

Hey, Mitch. I hear that there was some hideous gay bashing outside a bar last Saturday.
Yeah. Redneck @ssholes.
If I owned a gay bar–which I don’t, by the way—I’d have a bunch of weighted walking sticks by the door, so that as guys leave they can pick up some protection.
What guys?
Guys leaving the bar.
Oh, you mean GAY guys.
Yeah, that’s the subject under consideration, Mitch.
Why are you interested in gays? You think we are a pet, or something?
No, but it bothers me a whole lot when people are victimized. I got this revenge thing, you know. I’m telling you what I would tell anyone, gay or straight.
Well, we in the gay community don’t need your sympathy. We don’t need help from the breeders. We are not a special group. We are just what we are.
Then why do you make sure that everyone knows there is a so called gay community, and gay rights, and ill-treatment of gays?
Because…uh…
Yeah, I figured you wouldn’t have anything to say. Next time you start whining about gay bashing, I’ll tell you to take care of business yourself.

Buncha cry babies.
“Mommy, Billy said I’m icky!”
[She IS icky. She's more icky than a nude shot of Helen Thomas.]
“Mommy, Billy took my ball and won’t give it back!”
“Mommy, Billy won’t share his cookies with me.”
Yup, that’s what’s going on. Cry babies making demands.
We need to put all that stuff on extinction.

Mmmm hmm
Yes
Uh huh
Gee
Really
No kidding.
Oh, I’m so interested.
Although a tazer evokes neater sounds.
“Jeez, he’s violent.”
No, really? And your point?

Excellent. While Australia allegedly succumbs to PC rub amok causing hyperventilation extremis hereabouts not one remark about this nugget.
We’re waiting, Arthur, with bated breath, for your remark.
I was a cop for a long time and thought I had seen every stupid thing possible. Imagine my surprise.
That is the biggest load of PC crap I’ve ever seen. Lord I’m glad I got out when I did.
It would seem the Equal Opportunities Commission’s decision not only puts the public at further risk, but do they not also potentially open themselves up to possible lawsuits – victims who are further victimized and/or other citizens by the criminal who was not caught (although easily could have been) if there had a been a full description permitted?
I don’t know if Australia is on a par with our litigious American society, but if it is…

These two “white” criminals will surely get the death penalty they deserve. What would be the problem with that if they were black? Nothing except it would be just another example of the white oppressive judicial system
wrongly condeming another black man just because he was black.
