You’re right, Daphne… well worth the time. I saw the sheep episode when it originally aired (and most all of Rowe’s other stuff, as well). Rowe is part of my regular viewing primarily because of his low-key celebration of what used to be called “real work.”
His points about trade school enrollments diminishing should be taken to heart… as there’s something of a REAL crisis (for lack of a better term) in this space. Which is why there are a lot of rich plumbers and other such tradesmen these days. Supply/demand and all that…
I’m a big fan of his show, it’s kid friendly and he’s fantastic.
I couldn’t agree more about trade schools, bringing back vo-tech in high school would be wonderful, too. Not everyone is cut out for office work and we shouldn’t devalue the people who make things work, grow our food or build our goods.
My brother-in-law (we call him The King) went straight into the Electrician Apprenticeship after high school and he just finished the Pittsburgh Stadium as lead project manager. He makes more money than my husband with a Masters degree.
I love his show. I missed the sheep castration one. To me he always seems genuine and never mocks the people he works with/for. I like him even more after this vid.
Oh….. kay….. It is coming up on 5 minutes and I…. am…. out… of… here!
You have no patience, Gerard.
Oh….kay…. I came back and watched the whole thing and you are right. Well worth the time.
Linking it right up.
You just have to get past the sheep castration and even that has a point.
Plus, he’s really manly.
I am a big fan of TED and I always liked Mike Rowe but I didn’t appreciate him before this. Thanks Daphne.
You’re welcome.

Love his show. At times a bit snarky, but after watching this, I think that may just have been my perception.

If only more politicians had the clarity that Rowe demonstrates in this talk. It would be a huge first step to setting this country right again.
It takes a good person to admit when they are wrong, particularly on such a large scale. Mike just moved up in my esteem.
